Club Development


This department is there to help Clubs with their "off the field" development. We can help find funds for Facilities improvements. There is advice on Club organisation and we have people there to liaise with Clubs to help recruit, retain and reward volunteers.

RFU Staff

The RFU employs staff across England to work with counties like Surrey in the development of Rugby. These staff are arranged in six geographic Areas and Surrey forms part of Area 3 which also includes Essex, Kent and Sussex. Some work full time exclusively within Surrey, and others who work in the Area as a whole and spend part of their time on Surrey activities. Game Development

Our patrons are the lifeblood of what we do, making up a huge part of the Surrey Rugby Family and integral to the running and continuous growth of the county.

As a Surrey patron your annual contribution goes towards helping us:

  • Provide an administrative County Office in Leatherhead to serve the rugby community in Surrey
  • Provide representative and development opportunities for male players at Under 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20 and Senior, as well as female players at Under 13, 15, 18 and Senior age groups
  • Provides opportunities to achieve representative honours at regional level in association with Surrey Schools
  • Provide the stepping stones for gifted players to achieve National recognition at all youth age groups
  • Enter teams into the County Championships
  • Provide courses and support for those keen to learn about coaching and refereeing
  • Identify and develop rising stars in the game amongst Under 13, 14 and 15 year olds
  • Support the RFU Rugby Development Officers and Community Rugby Coaches, whose tasks include taking rugby in to non-rugby playing schools and running courses for teachers to help them teach rugby at their schools
  • Run a knockout Cup and Seven-A-Side competitions for Surrey Clubs
  • Administer RFU leagues for Surrey Clubs
  • Run reserve leagues for Senior 2nd and other XVs and smaller Clubs
  • Run youth leagues for our young players
  • Organise 4 major Mini Festivals for players up to 12 years old
  • Publish InPlay Magazine for the benefit of Surrey supporters
  • Run an informational website
