DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A RUGBY PATHFINDER

As part of the second stage of the Player Recruitment campaign (Go Play) the RFU have launched ‘Play On’ – a programme aimed at retaining players in the game.

The surveys conducted as part of campaign research has identified key occasions in a persons ‘Rugby Journey’ where an individual is most likely to stop playing and leave the game. The RFU a launching a programme of Rugby Pathfinders to help address this leakage on the rugby journey.

1380 Pathfinders will be identified and trained in schools, colleges, universities and clubs.  The role of the Pathfinder will be to put players in touch with other Pathfinders at the next place they are going to in their journey and to welcome new players when they arrive.  Pathfinders will be responsible for handing over a player as they move through the rugby journey.

Pathfinders will be part of a nationwide team which will have a real influence on the involvement and enjoyment in the game of thousands of people.  This role will have a huge impact on the whole game, both in the short term and particularly the long term.  Pathfinders will help to increase the playing membership in Clubs, Colleges and Universities.

DISCIPLINE POSTERS AND CODE OF CONDUCT CARDS

For some time the RFU have been concerned at increasing levels of misbehaviour by spectators and parents whilst watching rugby played at the under 18 level and below.   As a result we have produced two posters and code of conduct cards which we hope Clubs will find useful:

Discipline poster showing recommended sanctions for members of clubs involved in offences at matches at U18 level and below.

>>> Spectator and Parent Code of Conduct poster

>>> Spectator and Parent Code of Conduct cards – red/green for use at matches.

Each Club will receive 40 cards.

SECOND TIME THIS YEAR DO NOT DO IT

Reminder - adults playing contact rugby with youth players is strictly prohibited. The consequences can be very serious.

There has been a second incident, as reported by the RFU, of a child having their leg broken by an adult - tibia and fibula, with a 10 inch metal plate inserted. This happened during a post training session, a "fun" kids and adults contact game.

This is contra-indicated in several areas of RFU regulations, and the RFU, insurers and lawyers will not tolerate the organisation of any further combined adult and youth contact games.

CIPRIANI, THE SCHOOLBOY RUGBY STAR WHO HAS REPLACED JONNY

Danny will make his full debut on Saturday against Ireland.

Cipriani, 20, owes his rapid rise not only to Wilkinson's loss of form, but also to his mother. Anne Cipriani raised him single-handed on a housing estate in Putney after his father left to return to his native Trinidad when Danny was a young boy.

DAILY MAIL SENIOR SCHO0LS' 7's

Epsom College just loose in the finals to Colston's Collegiate 24-14.
In the Surrey Plate St John's Leatherhead are too powerful for Reed's School 46-0.

In superb conditions - yet again, the Surrey Schools' Senior 7's, sponsored by the Daily Mail produced some superb rugby.

Colston's picked up their second title in three days when they beat Epsom College 24-14 to win the Daily Mail Surrey Schools Sevens at Richmond Athletic Ground on Wednesday 5th March. Once again, Surrey Schools's are fortunate to have the complete support and backing of the Daily Mail. It enables a tournament at which schools from all over the South and West of England and Wales to compete on a level playing field prior to the National School 7's organised by Rosslyn Park the following week.

The Bristol school had beaten Millfield 17-12 to take the West of England title on Sunday. Epsom must have fancied their chances after beating Millfield 33-7 in the semi-finals and led 14-12 just after half time, but opportunistic tries from Nick Scott and George Watkin settled a top quality game. Epsom had suffered the loss of one of their key players in the semi-final, after a clash when two of their players went for the same tackle.

It was more one-sided in the Surrey Plate with St John's, Leatherhead proving far too pacy for Reed's, winning 46-0.  St John's had drawn Colston's in the opening rounds of the main competition and were therefore unfortunate not able to proceed further in the main competition. The Surrey Plate is reserved for Surrey Schools who have not proceeded into the main competition.
