MISSION STATEMENT

TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL YOUNG PEOPLE IN SURREY SCHOOLS TO ENJOY RUGBY FOOTBALL ENSURING THEY PLAY TO THEIR OPTIMUM CAPABILITY AND THAT THE BEST PLAY FOR SURREY.

WHAT IS THE SSRFU?

The Surrey ‘arm’ of the England Rugby football Schools Union (ERFSU), a constituent part of the 8 county ‘London Division’. Its remit is to encourage the playing of Rugby Union Football by all those age 18 and under and attending Surrey’s schools and colleges.

Currently 175 schools providing for both boys and girls across all age ranges and from both the maintained and independent sectors are affiliated to the Union. And though the higher reaches of the game have now been professionalised, the SSRFU’s activities are run entirely by volunteers, in the main practising schoolteachers.

In all its endeavours, the Schools Union, part of the CB RDP, works closely with its stakeholder partners to foster the broader youth game across the county – for instance many of those responsible for the county’s representative squads have professional roots in Surrey schools.

The SSRFU also works very closely with the county’s RFU Rugby Development Officers based in Leatherhead.
