MERTON RFC 3 PEAKS CHALLENGE  FOR SHOOTING STARS CHASE CHILDRENS CHARITY

Merton rugby are already looking to keep in training beyond the end of this season when a group of 15 club members, including Chairman Jack Canniff, Secretary Tom Wild, Treasurer Andrew Thumwood, 1st XV Captain Edgar Barros, and 2nd XV captain Conner Hayhoe, will be tackling the Three Peaks Challenge on 19th May, and the scaling of Ben Nevis, Scafell and Snowdon within 24 hours!

The Merton boys decided that they had to set themselves a challenge and try to raise funds to give something back to the local community, which they have proudly represented for 55 years.

Merton have chosen "Shooting Star Chase" who are a children’s hospice service caring for local families with a child or teenager with a life-limiting condition as they work locally to the  club between the areas of Croydon, Guildford and Kingston (and further afield).

As a club, Merton has supported various charities over the years, including SPARKS, Cancer Research UK, Muscular Dystrophy, Action Medical Research, Help for Heroes, Make-a-Wish, Operation Smile, GOSH, and many more, through climbing Kilimanjaro, canoeing the length of the Thames, cycling from Reading to Bristol, as well as running countless marathons!

The team of climbers draws players from all three of the club’s teams, as well as a couple of ex-players that no longer grace the green fields of Morden Recreation Ground, with the age range being from 19 to 60 plus!
